President Shri Pranab Mukherjee presents the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2013 to Vasavi Clubs International


It is for the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh that an organization from the state
has got such a prestigious award.
 His Excellency the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities-2013 at a function organized by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in Delhi late evening on Tuesday. Vasavi Clubs International, a Social Service Organisation with a network of 1035 Clubs spread across the country and 24 countries with 37,000 members bagged“National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, 2013”. Instituted by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Disability Affairs, Government of India, the award was presented onInternational Day of Persons with Disabilities yesterday i.e. 3rd December. Mr. Aitha Ramulu, International President, Vasavi Clubs International received the award through the hands of the President of India.

It is for the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh that an organization from the state has got such a prestigious award. Vasavi Clubs International was chosen for the award from amongst nearly 280 organisations which applied for it.

The National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities are given on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December every year in fourteen categories. The National Award bagged by Vasavi Clubs is awarded to organisations providing holistic comprehensive services to the persons with disabilities in a comprehensive manner. West Bengal's Asha Bhavan Centre also shares the award this year jointly along with Vasavi Clubs International.

Responding on the occasion Mr. Aitha Ramulu, International President, Vasavi Clubs International in a press release issued in city said that the award conferred on them is a great recognition to the work of all the members of Vasavi Clubs International dedicated to the service of humanity and will provide an impetus for us to provide better service to the society.

Vasavi Clubs International is a home grown club unlike other service organizations active in India and which has been exported to 24 countries. The Club expanded to Malaysia and Singapore this year. Throwing light on the activities of the Vasavi Clubs International, Mr. Aitha Ramulu informed that the Vasavi Clubs International was established with the sole aim of serving the persons of Disabilities, under privileged, and focusing on their needs in the areas of Education, Health Care, Self-Employment and extend support at the unfortunate times of Natural Calamities and Disasters. True to our Theme & Programme for the year 2013: “Help the Helpless for Better Life” Vasavi Clubs International makes every effort in making it possible for the betterment of the Society.
