As part of the ongoing ‘Business Orientation Program (BOP) – 2013’ at Institute Of Management Technology, Hyderabad, Mr. Ramesh Iyer, MD & CEO, Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services, visited the campus to address the institute’s students today.
Iyer spoke about the need for customer centricity in the financial services and FMCG industry, stressing on the significance of product projection, knowing your customer and providing a positive customer experience according to customer needs in a complex and competitive marketplace. Iyer highlighted the need to improve strengths rather than focus on weaknesses.
To experience balanced growth in any organization, there should be synergy between sectors i.e. Insurance and Financial Services. “Greed should never overtake judgment”, is something he strongly believes in and advises people.
Starting his journey as a management trainee at the Mahindra Group, Iyer’s self-motivation helped him to scale up to his current position as MD & CEO. He affirmed that there are always two options while you face a challenge. One is to run away and the other is to capitalize the opportunity. He also spoke about how the Mahindra Group captured India’s rural markets and thrived on obstacles they faced in these regions. “Business is never run by geography”, he said as he spoke to students.
“As you start achieving, that’s when the real excitement starts” said Mr Ramesh Iyer
- Knowledge is the key to success, irrespective of matters such as qualification or region feels Iyer. He ended his session with a thought provoking note, urging students to understand the fact that “Unless we learn to respect others, there is no career.”
Iyer serves as Vice President of Sales for Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd and as a Member of Group Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Services Sector of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. He has vast experience in matters relating to business development, finance and marketing.
